John worked for almost 40 years with the law firm of Hickey & Evans, where he first began practicing law upon graduation from law school in 1984. His practice areas include probate, local government law and a trial practice. In February of 2023, he became a co-founding member of Walker Law with his son Robert. He has a Martindale AV rating and has been selected to Super Lawyers.
John is married and has seven children and twenty-two grandchildren. He enjoys Wyoming’s rugged outdoors and is an avid hunter, fisherman, photographer and he also enjoys scuba diving. He has authored two novels, Pioneer Parables and Varmint Hunter. John also writes a regular op-ed column for the Wyoming Tribune Eagle, which is Wyoming’s second largest newspaper.
For many years he was the piano player for a local children’s choir and he also spent many summers coaching girls’ softball teams. John played for two summers on the Junior PGA golf tour, when he was in High School. He also acquired a pilot’s license while in High School.
John’s interest in litigation first began while competing on Cheyenne Central High School’s cross- examination debate team. He particularly enjoys his litigation practice where he is able to intertwine his legal skills with his psychological training.
